Striving to be dauntless, worriless and shameless, Hsuan Chen founded the game studio 18 Light in 2012 when he was still a freshman in university, growing and improving with the support and help from the indie developer community.
Being thankful for the assistance he got along the way, he tries to give back to the community and help others by organizing Students Game Dream, a group specifically focuses on developers that are still in school. He also runs game jams, and participates in organizing Taipei Game Developers Forum and Student Game Elite Conference.
With the help of his university, he formalized 18 Light studio as CEO and started producing the game Behind the Screen in 2016, combining his personal stories with some of the social phenomena prevalent in Taiwanese culture. The game launched in 2018, and he hoped that it could spark the discussion around the social issues and bring an unique journey to its players.
Behind the Screen is a short game that tries to give its players a long-lasting experience. This talk will cover the process from the game's concept, design to its post-launch period.
We not only put challenges into the game, but also ask the players to reflect aspects of the issues presented. Because of that, some of the designs in the game are not commonly seen, and we will discuss the cost that came with these designs.
Note: This session will be conducted in Mandarin.
